Episode 38: Dr. Janice Hooker-Fortman - Help for the Mother/Daughter Relationship
Golden Nuggets from Dr. Fortman
Pay attention to what is going on in your life - might be part of God’s guidance.
Self reflection can be a huge teacher.
Common issues with mothers and daughters:
~Daughters get older they decide that they are the mom
~Mom’s not letting go of a grown adult daughter
~Both giving unsolicited advice
~Both using the word “should” with one another
Relationships matter!
Social nedia has affected relationships as well as mental health!
There is a “way with words” that brings more honor to all of your relationships.
Do you REALLY know who your mother is? Sit down and ask her how she was raised and how her thoughts were formed.
You can’t change your mother but you can change the way you respond to her.
AWARENESS can bring empathy and understanding. Are you AWARE of what you aren’t AWARE of about that difficult relationship?
Become more aware of what makes your mom (or the other person) tick.
Chase your dream! Don’t wish you “would of , could of or should of” someday!
